Interested in having or being an OUTLaw mentor?

OUTLaw will pair interested 1L and transfer students with 2L or 3L mentors.  The time commitment is very minimal (or as much as you want it to be) and the main purpose is to ensure that 1L and transfer students have another OUTLaw student as a social, academic, and career resource.

There are a few reasons why having an OUTLaw mentor is be particularly valuable as a 1L or transfer student:

1.  Career/Academic Advice-  Many transfer students are beginning to participate in the Fall OCIP and many 1Ls will participate in a similar program during the spring semester.  If you are interested in research, firm, or non-profit work positions, the mentorship program affords mentees opportunities to ask OUTLaw students about any concerns that they have about being queer and going through the job search process.  Your mentors will also be able to give you advice about being "out" on your resume, cultural reputations of specific employers, and general advice about the job search process, exams, classes, etc.

2.  Socially- The mentorship program also gives 1Ls the opportunity to get to break away from their section and get to know a 2L member of the queer community on a one-on-one basis.  It also gives transfer students the opportunity to connect with a 3L law student to ease the transfer transition.  Your mentor can give you advice about the LA social scene and where the hot spots are to go.  This could be especially beneficial if you are not from the LA region.
