Studying for final exams? OUTLaw is here to help! OUTLaw maintains a bank of OUTLines to help you study, and we are glad to share them with our members.

OUTLines are for OUTLaw members only! Information on how to access them will be sent over the Outlaw-Announce list (see Mailing List on the left). Again, please remember our guidelines:

First, PLEASE do not share with people - please use these outlines only for your own benefit, or the 'edge' from getting these (and the reason they were contributed in the first place) is lost.

Second, if you are a second/third year student (or a fourth year or LLM), PLEASE contribute an outline for EVERY class that you request.  So if you are requesting outlines for three classes, please send Lisa three of your previous outlines.  The only reason our OUTLine bank can remain well-stocked and up-to-date, so that it has the outline you are looking for, is because people like you share your own outlines.  So please make the effort if you are able.

Third, since first year students (during the Fall semester only) don't have any outlines to contribute yet, they may ask for any on the list and as many as desired. In lieu of the sacrificial outlines, 1Ls are strongly urged (though not required) to contribute a haiku on the joys of attending UCLA or living in LA. Feel free to contribute one or several.  In the Spring semester, 1Ls have outlines to contribute and are expected to follow the second rule above rather than submitting haikus. (Though, if you’re feeling creative, haikus are always welcome.) See our list of previously submitted haikus at the bottom of the page.

Fourth, remember that just because these are outlines of advanced and former students, they may not necessarily be correct, well-written, or even coherent.  This goes double for outlines from first year classes - the authors were probably just as confused as you are now at the time they were written.  We recommended that you use them to fill in any holes in your own outline (perhaps brought on by a sudden need to check Facebook during Civ Pro). Remember, no outside outline is ever a substitute for having to sit down and figure it out for yourself!

So see below for our OUTLines list and remember to keep an eye on the Announce list for information on how to access them. If you have any questions, you can also contact the OUTLaw administrators at uclaoutlaw@gmail.com.

Haikus from years past:

Fall 2008

Finals Period
For a seventeen days break
Not a fair tradeoff

Gym two times last week
Looks like only once this week
Exams bad for health

Biz ass review time
Don’t understand anything
I am gonna fail

Finished my outline
For my first final exam
Worth just two credits
`
Gosh I am so great
I’ve found my new life calling
Spider Solitaire

OutLaw OutLines are
most helpful during exams.
Thanks so much Lisa!

Casebooks so heavy
Cold calls are cruel punishment
Caffeine is fading

So I need outlines,
but its cool 'cause I got pride!
Rainbowrific pride!

Static, not moving,
The 405 is my hell,
Why must you exist?

Anonymously
Graded tests means reading is
a total option.

LuValle.  Soul Crushing
Hate Sandwich and Shit Salad.
More Chicken, Damnit!

We get it, you're smart.
And have strong shoulders due to
your ever-raised hand.

Due to collapsing
economy, must learn to
shine apples and boots.

"Daybreak"
Gray morning dawns with
plaintive call or mourning dove.
Life beckons through clouds.

Shapiro Courtyard
Is now the center of life
I read there all day

Law professors are
Some of the strangest people
I have ever met

“Acrostic Haiku”
Library carrells
Act as blinders to the world
While outside is life.

Living in Hell's dark center
Is a lot like living in LA
Dante's inner circle: HelLA

UCLA Law
Pizza day to day for lunch
This is law school, huh?

outlaw is so great
law school perhaps maybe not
thank you for outlines

smog coats lungs, can't breathe.
my sports teams on tv? fail.
glad the law school rocks!

gasbreakjerkgasbreak
toothless guy preaching to all
I love MTA

reading takes so long
finals approach, professors!
stop assigning things!

Spring 2008

I'm going to sleep
Much too late to make it through
I guess I am screwed

Why can't there be a
queer bar two doors from my house?
Then I would go out.

O hot 4L, why
aren't you ever in the lounge
so that I can flirt?

Finals are coming
No more bathing or laughing
Laptops please don't die

---------------------------------------------------

Fall 2007

Winter never comes
Snow will never grace the ground
Damn I love L.A.

A smoggy morning
"nobody walks in L.A."
I whistle, and walk.

Going out downtown
I realize it is really
like the L Word here.

Warm most of the year
flip-flops twenty-four seven
in Los Angeles

Four years college here
three more years for law
would like nothing more

I drive a car now
Money goes in my gas tank
And the sky is grey

UCLA! YAY!
I came here for all the gays
All the hot, smart, gays.

Candy in my box
People jealous, asking why
Wishing they were gay.

Napping on green couch.
Hoodies can be blankets too.
Mouse click lullaby.

"So, for the final..."
Solitaire games disappear.
"...eat and sleep."  Oh.  Great.

Fall 2006

a blossom opens--
summer spreads along the street.
i'm stuck in traffic.

procrastination
project runway or civ pro
the former i go

Even when not a
Car is in sight for miles.
Still the walkers wait.

Braindead, hard to think
of haiku, on six hour's sleep.
It rhymes! Better read.

a crisp sunny day
tapety-tap my laptop
a sip o’ hot joe

shady spleen doctor
shields lucrative secrets from
his patient patient

I sing the praises
Of wise old Outlaw Bruins.
Can I get some help?

Yeazell, Munzer, French
For a poor, struggling 1L
Earns my gratitude

Property owns me.
Civil Procedure, isn't.
Contracts... 8 a.m.

So, need I say more?
I hear finals approaching
I'm not scared enough

Help me get to work
And I'll pass it on someday
Law school's not so bad.

Fall 2005

Trading haikus for
outlines... ah, the quirkiness
of queer law students.

This is for you Jim
Requests in Haiku format
Gay men love culture

Outlines make me glad
I like to sleep with women
Who says I’m oppressed

I still hate LA
The devil lives in We-Ho
He’s dating Tom Cruise

People are yelling
Loudly outside my window
I live in Westwood

My memo is due
Wednesday at nine a.m.
I should be writing

Santa Monica
Big blue bus takes me to class
With smiling drivers

"Hi," says the driver
"Thanks," I reply when I leave
I love my bus friends

first year sleep cravings.
i fetishize warm chenille.
blankets are sexy.

Thanks, Hummel memo
I've sworn off elevators
And take stairs instead!
